Search help

  • Unlike Google, the search only finds exact matches, so less is often better.
  • Different spellings, and words which don’t follow each other, will bring up no results.
  • Don’t search on a type of group and an area e.g. ‘older people Dewsbury’ – search on the type only first, and then select from the choice of areas.
  • To download the information please see the options at the bottom of each page of search results.

To find an organisation

Put in a keyword from the name, or if you're sure about them 2 words in the same order as in the name.

If this fails try just the first few letters of the key word, in case the ending or spelling is different.

Or try searching the category which the organisation might belong to. Please see below for more details.

To find all the organisations in a category

Use the Search by Category and then see the sub category options on the left of the search results.

If you can't find the category you want then search for it by keyword - this should bring up some relevant organisations. An organisation's categories can be seen in their main entry, and you can then click on the category name to access all the entries in that category.

To find the organisations in an area by category

Firstly search by category only – don’t include the name of the area.

Then see the list of options on the left hand side. The lower 3 filter the search according to location (town or village), postcode or Council ward.

These filtered lists are based on the organisation’s venue. If an organisation hasn’t provided a venue they won’t be included in these lists, but a keyword search on the name of the area may bring up some of them.

To find all the organisations in an area or in Community Directory

You can select all the organisations in Community Directory by searching on a blank search.

For areas see the list of options on the left hand side. The lower 3 filter the search according to location (town or village), postcode or Council ward.

In My Neighbourhood there is also an option to see and download a list of organisations by Council ward.
