History

  1. The Spen Valley history in pictures

This Local History & Photography Group was formed by Harry Dwyer in 2012 and now has over 1,700 members as of July 2016.

A visual history of the towns and villages of the Spen Valley.

This Group aims to not only inform people of the past with images, it aims to add detail to the images, and in doing so, reveal its ever changing story.

"What made the Spen Valley unique was the diversity of industrial activity that spawned the scores of mill chimneys that once dominated our horizons – card-clothing, carpets, chemicals, cotton, engineering, leather, millwrights, woollens, worsteds and wood-working, to name but a few."

I hope members enjoy discovering their past into the present.
