History

  1. I was introduced to Belly Dancing in 1999 when a friend asked me if I'd like to go to a local class with her. I have always enjoyed dancing and had a great time learning all the 'moves' and listening to the different styles of music.

The more classes and workshops I attended the more knowledge and confidence I gained, and found myself able to help other people in the group who couldn't get the idea of what or how they should be moving. After being encouraged by other experienced dance teachers to move in to teaching, I started running a beginners class myself.

Over time this has expanded and I now run 6 classes in Huddersfield at HD1 Dance Studio, catering for different experience/skill levels from absolute beginners up to performer level. More focussed private tuition is available to polish a performance or work on particular dance techniques, or for people who want to learn basic techniques before they join a class.

In addition to these classes I run a weekly 30 minute choreography boot camp session, and 'Hathor' performance group practice sessions which I head up and am a founder member. I'm also the founder and director of the male dance group Umibak as well as Reesha which is a troupe of mixed dance abilities and offers an opportunity for them to experience performing at local Haflas (belly dance parties)

Hathor perform at many different events and venues, for Community and Charity organisations as well as private parties and corporate functions. We have met some very interesting people on our travels and had lots of fun in the process in addition to helping raise funds for local Charities.

I run Workshops, Hen and Birthday party events but also organise workshops in other musical/dance styles.

I have, and continue to attended many specialist workshops, undertaken more formal training and have successfully completed the JWAAD Foundation teaching course.
