  1. Longwood Mechanics Hall is a multi purpose community building available for hire to organised groups and individuals. Licensed for the performance of Dance, Live and Recorded Music, Film Shows, Plays and Exhibitions.

    Now Fully Licensed for the sale of Alcohol for consumption on and off the premises.
    Bar available for all private functions

    Main Hall has a large stage with capacity of 80 for dancing and 100 for Shows. Library and information centre with internet access. Meeting rooms: Old School Room/dance studio for meetings of up to 30 people; Art Room for meetings of up to 12 people; Philip Taylor Room capacity 8.

    We have numerous weekly activities and classes for all ages and interests including various forms of dancing, art society, table tennis, martial arts and activities for over 55s.

Regular meetings or activities, usually on a weekly or monthly basis, and exhibitions of more than a week.

Your activities will appear on our ‘Things to do’ pages. You can include any regular ongoing activities that people can join in with, such as scouts and guides, youth clubs, craft groups, dancing, sports clubs and gardening clubs.

If you want to change your venue or add a new one please use the postcode / street name field to see a list of venues. This should cover all venues in Kirklees, but if you can’t find the venue you need please contact Community Directory, and we will advise or add it for you.

History

  1. The Longwood Mechanics Hall was built in 1858 as a home for Longwood Mechanics Institue and has remained as a community building for nearly 150 years. We, under the Longwood Village Group, are currently involved in restoring the Hall to full use after years of neglect and underuse.
