History

  1. Huddersfield Philharmonic Orchestra can trace its origins to 1862, and has been an amateur musical organisation from that date. Established as a teaching organisation, known as Mr Thomas's Band, it subsequently became the Fitzwilliam Street Philharmonic Society and gave its first performance under its current name in February 1885. The orchestra celebrated its150th anniversary of its foundation in 2012.
Historically the orchestra has performed 3 concerts each season in Huddersfield Town Hall, usually in November, February and April.

Summer concerts have occasionally been added to this, along with chamber concerts in different venues.
For full details of future concerts, please see our website and watch out for our season brochure, available in July.
