  1. Howlands is based in a fit for purpose building in the centre of Dewsbury , that will benefit our own members and provide an attractive modern meeting space for use by individuals and associations from the whole community.

    At Howlands we work to promote and assist the welfare of adults with physical and mental disabilities and to offer support to those who are vulnerable, marginalised and isolated. We do this through art based activities for which we provide a safe, comfortable environment in our fully modernised building on School Street, Dewsbury where our members can discover new creative or practical skills. There is opportunity to develop social skills and make new friends in the classes which are held in friendly relaxed surroundings,

    After a three month refurbishment funded by the Big Lottery Howlands is now open to welcome new members. Please phone 01924 463693 for details or feel free to visit any time, Mon- Fri between 9.30 am - 4,00 pm. We look forward to meeting you.

    Howlands is now ready and open to take room bookings “We feel that our refurbishment is a very positive statement in the regeneration of Dewsbury and we look forward to being at the hub of the resurgence of local community involvement.” Our fully modernised building on School Street in Dewsbury is able to accommodate a variety of uses from which all the community can benefit.. We can provide a flexible space for a community group or activity, big or small.     The Dewsbury and District League of Friendship is a small independent charity formed over 60 years ago and based at Howlands , Dewsbury, . The organisation is unusual in that it is run by the members for the members, with the help of voluntary workers and the paid staff.
