  1. Village Art is an enterprise initiated in 2019 by the Friends of Skelmanthorpe Community Library, assisted and supported by Denby Dale Parish Council, with the intention of providing exhibition space for local artists and art groups in the parish council/library building, a location familiar to residents of the area and easily accessible to visitors from further afield.

To date, and with a two year hiatus because of Covid, we have exhibited Huddersfield Art Society, Shelley and Hepworth Art Groups, Skelmanthorpe and District U3A Art Group. Open Call exhibitions, as well as attracting individual local artists, have seen contributors from as far away as Stafford, Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, South, East and North Yorkshire and Greater Manchester.

The gallery boasts approximately 60 linear metres of hanging space over two floors which can be doubled or even trebled, depending upon the size of works. We also offer four glass cases which can accommodate small to medium sized 3D works. Unfortunately we cannot accept larger floor standing pieces.

No commissions or charges are made to artists and assistance with mounting exhibitions is available, either with artists' supervision or with the advice of our experienced curator. What we do ask is that, if any sale is made as a result of our efforts, a donation be made to the Friends of the library. We think 10% of sale price is a reasonable ask.

While Denby Dale Parish Council does have Public Liability insurance, any further insurance required is the responsibility of the artist/group.
