About the event
For 15 days in June Westbourne Road and the neighbourhood of Marsh will burst into arty life once again for the Marshian Arts trail, featuring artworks by over 40 artists and a busy schedule of events.
The arts trail, which runs from Saturday June 6th until Sunday June 21st will feature paintings, drawings, prints, pastels, charcoal, photography, ceramics, sculpture, textiles and felting. Map available from Marsh Co-op Food shop.
The centrepiece will be a display of artwork by local artists in 38 businesses on Westbourne Road and New Hey Road between Marsh Liberal Club and The Junction Pub.
Three “satellite” exhibitions will run in Greenhead Park Conservatory Cafe – the “Save the Rainforest” exhibition, an exhibition of photos and poetry by “The Waiting Room Poet” Mohamed Saloo ( June 6-21st) and an exhibition of bonsai trees and bonsai inspired paintings by the artist FREAKone (June 6-13th)
Running alongside the main arts trail is a lively programme of dance, meditation, poetry, film, open studios, walks and yoga. And the streets around Marsh are set to be adorned with fabulous otherworldly creations, produced by the local community during workshops held in Marsh during May half term week.
Events include:
June 13th-14th will be open studio weekend with open studios in Marsh with Maggie Thompson and JD Lewis and in Edgerton Cemetery Tower House and Cemetery Road allotments with Pam Day, Jonathan Adamson and Mauritizio Miele.
On Monday June 15th Edgerton Cemetery Tower House will be open once again for film screenings and slide projections by Vivienne Mager and Jonathan Adamson, recording their experiences in remote regions of Scotland’s highlands and islands.
On the final weekend June 20-21st, a poetry workshop will explore the arts trail, creating some verses together or individually, some of which will be used for a calligraphy workshop and community exhibition later in the summer and there will be another chance to “Meet the Artists” at a coffee and cake social at Marshmallow Café.
