Activities with East Pennine Orienteering Club (EPOC)

About this activity

Categories: sport and fitness; walks and rides.

Orienteering is a challenging outdoor adventure sport that exercises both the mind and the body. The aim is to navigate in sequence between control points marked on a unique orienteering map and decide the best route to complete the course in the quickest time. It does not matter how young, old or fit you are, as you can run, walk or jog the course and progress at your own pace.

Orienteering can take place anywhere from remote forest and countryside to urban parks and school playgrounds. It’s a great sport for runners, joggers and walkers who want to improve their navigation skills or for anyone who loves the outdoors.

East Pennine Orienteering Club organises orienteering competitions, events and coaching and training sessions in Huddersfield, Wakefield and Halifax. There are regular fixtures open to anyone. Please see our website for latest information.

In Kirklees there are permanent courses in Dewsbury, Huddersfield, Scammonden. and Oakwell Hall near Birstall. Please see our website to download map and instructions. You do not need to belong to a club to use any of these orienteering courses.

EPOC also has a run/walking group in nearby Calderdale, an older persons walking group, and a mountain bike ride group.
