Exhibition: Brass Bands: Heritage and Culture (Heritage Quay, Huddersfield)

About this activity

Runs from March 4th to April 22nd, Mondays to Saturdays (not open over Easter).

Also special opening weekend includes opening on Sunday March 5th.

2023 is Kirklees Year of Music! Across the borough, people will be celebrating the rich culture of music in this area. At Heritage Quay, we’re doing that too. During 2023 we will bring you no fewer than six exhibitions, all focused on different genres of music. The exhibitions will draw on collections we look after, and the work of some of our partners.

Since the nineteenth century, brass bands have been a key part of the musical landscape in Britain, especially in the South Pennines. In a new exhibition at Heritage Quay, learn about the history and present of the banding movement through objects from one of our newest collections. From uniforms to scores to letters to photographs, the exhibition explores the bands, individuals and national organisations who have made the movement what it is today.
