Orchestral Concert (Kirklees Concert Season 2025/26)

About the event

The Kirklees Concert Season is a unique partnership between Kirklees Council and Opera North in which the Orchestra of Opera North brings world class music to Kirklees with its sumptuous orchestral concerts and uplifting chamber concerts. Together with our series of relaxed and friendly organ concerts, we deliver a world-class programme of concerts to Huddersfield and Dewsbury Town Halls.

The orchestral concerts are at Huddersfield Town Hall, except 11th December Christmas Gala, and the 29th March concert which are in Dewsbury.

All concerts feature the Orchestra of Opera North, often with celebrated guest performers. Most concerts have a pre-concert talk.

  • Thursday 25 September 2025 - 7:30pm, Rachmaninov's Second Symphony; also Gershwin Strike up the Band; Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1. Garry Walker conductor, Elena Urioste violin, Orchestra of Opera North. Pre Concert talk at 6.40pm.
  • Thursday 4 December 2025 - 7:30pm, Elgar Introduction and Allegro for Strings; Walton Viola Concerto; Outi Tarkainen The Ring of Fire and Love; Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet Suites Nos.1 & 2 (selections). Orchestra of Opera North. Pre Concert talk at 6.40pm.
  • Thursday 11 December 2025 - 7:30pm, Christmas Gala - festive favourites and carols for all to sing. With Orchestra and Chorus of Opera North and Opera North Youth Chorus
  • Thursday 22 January 2026 - 7:30pm, The Orchestra of Opera North with David Pipe: Saint-Saëns’ ‘Organ’ Symphony. Also Saint-Saëns Danse macabre; Ravel Mother Goose Suite; Holmes La nuit et l’amour; Chabrier Fete polonaise. Pre Concert talk at 6.40pm.
  • Thursday 26 February 2026 - 7:30pm, The Orchestra of Opera North: Beethoven’s ‘Pastoral’ Symphony. Also Stravinsky Pulcinella – Suite; Mozart Concerto for Flute and Harp. Karel Deseure - Conductor, Celine Saout - Flute, Luke O’Toole - Harp. Pre Concert talk at 6.40pm.
  • Sunday 29 March 2026 - 3:30pm, Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel - The Opera North Youth Orchestra performs excerpts from Engelbert Humperdinck’s fairytale opera, joined by special guest singers to bring this masterpiece to life.
  • Thursday 23 April 2026 - 7:30pm, The Orchestra of Opera North: Brahms’ Fourth Symphony. Also Brahms Academic Festival Overture; Thomas Adés Three Studies from Couperin; Rachmaninov Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Pre Concert talk at 6.40pm.
  • Sunday 14 June 2026 - 4:00pm, The Orchestra of Opera North: The Four Seasons Also Mozart Symphony No. 25; Ravel Le tombeau de Couperin. Katie Stillman - Violin & Director. Pre Concert talk at 3.10pm.
