Balls and Parties: Legendary Festivities from Jubilee to Proust

Lecture by Dr Benjamin Wild at 7.15pm. (Doors open 6.30pm)
Looking beneath the shimmer and glitter of four costumed events, from the Devonshire House Ball of 1897 to the Rothschild’s Proust Ball of 1971, this illustrated lecture explains the festivities’ complex motivations and considers why similar entertainments are rarely held today.
