History

  1. Huddersfield Community First was officially launched in November 2018. The organisation was founded on a vision to establish an organisation which would cater for the entire community, young and old. An organisation open to all without any prejudices whilst working in partnership with establishments nationally. This will result in a community where all individuals, families and neighbourhoods could prosper.

Imaam Mohammed Abubakar Saleem began pursuing his studies in Religious Education and Arabic Studies at a young age of 13. He studied in various institutes across the UK and South Africa.

Mohammed graduated in his studies in 2015 and was immediately employed as an Imaam at Jamia Masjid Noor in Huddersfield. During his time as an Imaam, Mohammed worked very hard to form a bond and rapport with the youth in order to develop and nurture them for a better future. He established the first youth club within a Mosque located in Huddersfield. This later became an inspiration and model for engaging the youth for other Mosques to follow. Mohammed has always believed in unity, building bridges, community cohesion and helping others. To fulfil this vision, he reached out and worked with Churches, Hospitals, Foodbanks, Schools, Mosques, Local Government (Kirklees) and many other organisations and individuals.

In September 2018, Mohammed left his post as Imaam at Jamia Masjid Noor to focus solely on fulfilling his vision. With the help of a few volunteers and friends, Huddersfield Community First was set up in a matter of months and is now chaired by Mohammed.
