  1. Freemasonry has been in existence for hundreds of years and pre-dates The United Grand Lodge of England - which itself is some 300 years old. Freemasonry is one of the world's oldest secular fraternal societies. A society in which men are strongly encouraged to develop their moral and spiritual values.

In Freemasonry, its members are taught moral lessons and self-knowledge by a series of allegorical plays which are learnt by heart and performed within each Lodge.

Freemasonry instills in its members a moral and ethical approach to life: it seeks to reinforce thoughtfulness for others, kindness in the community, honesty in business, courtesy in society and fairness in all things. Members are urged to regard the interests of the family as paramount but, importantly, Freemasonry also teaches and practices concern for people, care for the less fortunate and help for those in need.

Beaumont Lodge No. 2035 has been in Kirkburton for some 130 years and meetings take place at the Masonic Hall on Shelley Lane, Kirkburton (opposite the Police Station). We meet on Wednesdays and gentlemen are welcome providing they are over the age of 21, please don't be afraid to come down and meet us.

History

  1. The Beaumont Lodge was consecrated in 1884 and was the 67th Lodge in that Province of Yorkshire West Riding, and the building was dedicated in 1889.

The coat of arms used by the Lodge are those of the Beaumont's of Whitelely Beaumont, whose ancestral home was situated above Lepton Edge. The house was demolished in 1951 , but remnants still remain including the popularly called Black Dick's Tower.

Henry Fredrick Beaumont, who agreed to our use of his family name and arms was initiated into the Lodge in 1890, and his son Henry Ralph in 1891.

The Latin Motto fide sed cui vide can be translated as trust, but mind whom you trust.

In 1940 the building was requisitioned by the Military Authorities and used a NAAFI Canteen. It was returned to its members in 1946.

The Beaumont Chapter was formed in 1964 and the Beaumont Lodge of Mark Master Masons was formed and consecrated on the 1st February 1979.
