  1. WACKY (Wild Activities Challenging Kirklees Young people) is an annual holiday scheme, open to all young people with disabilities aged 13 – 25.

This year's WACKY will commence on 19th July 2016 and runs for three weeks from 10:30am to 3:30pm. The project is based at Little Deer Wood Shepley Bridge Huddersfield Road Mirfield WF14 9HR.

There is always a good balance of projects on offer each day including: music, cooking, arts & crafts and various physical activities like goal ball, boccia and basket ball. Canoeing, archery and cycling were really popular last year with our fleet of adapted cycles.

The project now in its tenth year fought off stiff competition to come runner up in the Children & Young People Now Awards sponsored by the National Youth Agency. WACKY is run by the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award team of Kirklees Council's Integrated Youth Support Service and enthusiastic volunteers and provides parents and carers of children with disabilities, a much needed short break and young people an enriching, fun experience in a safe and controlled setting.

WACKY attracts around forty enthusiastic and committed volunteers, whose help and support is invaluable to the success of the project. Different agencies and staff from various localities bring with them a wealth of experience, enthusiasm and energy which results in a well organized and really successful holiday activity scheme.
