Normally we add categories for you when the entry is set up, but you have the option to edit them. Very occasionally some categories have restricted usage and we’ll let you know if we feel there’s a problem.

The categories are tiered with the broadest first. Click on the plus sign till you find the specific categories that best suit your group.

If you want to change your venue or add a new one please use the postcode / street name field to see a list of venues. This should cover all venues in Kirklees, but if you can’t find the venue you need please contact Community Directory, and we will advise or add it for you.

You can add or amend news items, and the date will change automatically, although you may need to go back into the entry to see the revised date.

To delete a news item, there is a delete option when you press Edit. This currently works only on the headline, and the text field needs to be saved with at least one digit in it, e.g. ‘x’. Alternatively, you can replace it with a new item.

Everyone's a Batley Poet...

  1. The Batley Poets spun out of the first Batley Festival in September 2012, inspired by the Gujarati Writers Forum, The Yorkshire Dialect Group and many individual local poets and enthusiasts. In November 2014, supported by Arts Council England and Creative Scene, Batley Poets created their first 'pop-up' display in the disused Alfreds' Way shopping centre in Batley for Batley Business Association. The phrases, 'Everyone's a Batley Poet' and 'Anything Goes' sum up the Batley Poets.

  1. Welcome to BatleySmile. A big thank you to all of our many friends and supporters who have inspired us since we all started smiling in Batley in 2009. If you are new to smiling, welcome. BatleySmile CIC was formed in December 2014. Our mission is to 'talk-up' and promote the town of Batley, West Yorkshire, UK. Our aim is to cooperate with others to carry out activities for the benefit of the town of Batley, its residents and local organisations. Having informally supported a range of cultural, arts and community initiatives in Batley (2009 - 2014) - including the launch of Batley Festival in 2012 and the successful £2 Million Arts Council England lottery funded Creative People and Places Programme bid for our area - we decided to establish BatleySmile CIC social enterprise in late 2014 to make our work sustainable. Looking for an inspirational collaborative organisation to help guide and inform us and share our experiences we joined the Locality network in April 2015.

Please call Mark Griffin on 07736 416668 or Email and let's have a chat and a smile. Of the many folk and organisations who have inspired the development of BatleySmile CIC it is right to acknowledge and say thanks to Ahmad Lunat OBE and Malcolm Haigh BEM.
