  1. The Friends of Cliff Recreation Ground promotes the Rec as a resource for local people and visitors. The Rec is on an open heathland site, right on the edge of Holmfirth, high above the town. "The best view of the valley may be had from the top of the Cliff and the panorama spread before the visitor will well repay them for the climb up the hill." (Visitors' guide, 1908)

In 2011 the Rec was designated as a QE2 field, which means that it is now protected from any development, in perpetuity.

The Friends has produced an illustrated, 80 page booklet - "It's always windy up there: a short history of Cliff Rec" - based on the work we did as part of a heritage project. Copies are on sale in Read Bookshop, Holmfirth.

We have recently started to work in partnership with the newly-formed Friends of Cinderhills Park and have jointly organised a Pumpkin Trail, in October '21 and an Easter Egg Hunt in April '22.

Our next event, on Sunday 18 December '22, is our annual Carols on the Cliff, with Hade Edge Band, which attracts more visitors every year. For this year only, we have brought the starting time forward to 1-00pm, to avoid a direct clash with the Football World Cup Final.

In May '23 we will be lighting our Jubilee Beacon, for a Coronation Clebration, with Hade Ege Band.

We warmly welcome new members. If you would like to join us, please get in touch.
