  1. ASK is a confidential Rational Recovery service which provides non religious effective help to all those suffering directly or indirectly through alcohol abuse. ASK provides email and phone help and confidential counselling by appointment.

Based on over fifty years' experience of alcohol, ASK uses an enthusiastic step by step approach, combining empathy with a pragmatic practical style, tempered with an appropriate sense of humour.

The aim is to motivate people, initially on a one to one basis, to start to handle their problems and get back to normality.

ASK's message to anyone searching for a way out is that there is hope, it can be done, and you are not alone.

Normally we add categories for you when the entry is set up, but you have the option to edit them. Very occasionally some categories have restricted usage and we’ll let you know if we feel there’s a problem.

The categories are tiered with the broadest first. Click on the plus sign till you find the specific categories that best suit your group.

News

You can add or amend news items, and the date will change automatically, although you may need to go back into the entry to see the revised date.

What Can ASK Do For You?

  1. In addition to previous clients' recommendations, more and more Kirklees GPs are referring clients for help. Unfortunately GPs' consultations are limited to ten or fifteen minutes. This doesn't always allow enough time to explain your situation fully. However, ASK is willing and able to take as much time as necessary to listen, empathise, understand and then help you decide what to do.

There are very few services for those who are affected by other people's drinking. However, if you are concerned about your own or someone else's drinking, you've come to the right place. ASK can and will help you.

ASK's proprietor Alan Walker speaks regularly on local radio.

The Huddersfield Examiner frequently publish articles about ASK's work and opinions on alcohol care.

ASK has 5 Star Yorkshire and Humberside Suppliers Quality Assured Standard and is registered with Kirklees Council Suppliers and Contract Management System (SCMS). ASK is an approved AlcoSense breathalyser supplier. ASK delivers Department for Transport (DFT) approved drink drive rehabilitation courses on behalf of the Court System.

    Please feel free to contact Alan Walker on 01484 559 222 or 07435 567 401 or arwalker@alcoholsupport.com

or from the Contact tab on the ASK web site at:

    www.alcoholsupport.com

to discuss and clarify any questions you may have.

History

  1. Under the guidance of Dr H M Tobarek Hossain, ASK's founder Alan Walker has served as Director and Secretary of Kirklees Alcohol Advisory Service Ltd (KAAS). KAAS is a registered charity and a limited company.

Rehabilitated from a 30 year serious drinking problem, Alan is sincerely committed to helping others make positive lifestyle changes towards recovery.

ASK was founded to fill a gap in existing local alcohol service provision for those who recognise a need to change, but are not yet ready to attend group therapy sessions offered by other providers in Kirklees.
