  1. Manasamitra, an artist led organisation based in Dewsbury was formed in February 2005 with the objective of promoting traditional South Asian music and dance. We have worked across client groups ranging from local community groups and schools to international festivals and venues. Our work is informed by India's incredibly rich cultural heritage, combined with other cultures and traditions, to create our unique sound.

We now work in three major areas:
    1. The creation and performance of original cross-genre, multi-cultural fusion music for local, regional, national and international audiences. We have developed the Dewsbury ‘not-the-fringe’ Festival as a showcase for local talent and to introduce new and exciting artists to local audiences.
    2. The development of the next generation of female composers from ethnic-minority backgrounds. Our ground-breaking mentoring programme guides and supports emerging artists in creative, business and strategy planning.
    3. Online delivery of performance work; podcasting; workshop delivery.
We work with a range of art forms, including storytelling, visual arts, dance, and film, developing exciting and culturally-rich projects for local schools and community groups.

We also provide specialist corporate team building workshops as part of building motivation and creativity in businesses.

History

  1. We are an artist led organisation established in February 2005, quickly obtaining various commissions and accolades. Since then we have grown into an organisation that has developed a distinct identity within the UK cultural sector, rooted in the sounds of South India but influenced by and fused with a range of other traditions from across the globe.

Whilst our reach is now international, we remain committed to providing activities for our local community, constantly planning new and exciting projects for schools and communities in the district.
