History

  1. History image goes here
  2. The Students' Union has existed since before the creation of Huddersfield Polytechnic, and in its present form as the University of Huddersfield Students' Union, since the creation of the University in 1992.

A vibrant Students' Union is part of the overall student experience at Huddersfield, adds to the aims of retention and widening participation, and should be considered as an integral part of university life.

The Students' Union is an important service provider for students at the University of Huddersfield. It has two symbiotic subdivisions, both of which contribute towards the positive student experience at Huddersfield: the Membership Services branch, and the Commercial Service branch.

Membership services deal predominantly with providing advice, support and representation to the students. It also provides opportunities for personal development through a wide range of special interest groups, volunteer opportunities, clubs and societies and through membership of the Union Executive and Student Governing Council (SGC).

The Commercial Service branch of the Union also supports the welfare and student activities in the form of a shop, which is run to provide services to the members.
