  1. The Royal Air Force Air Cadets is a voluntary youth organisation for people aged 12 to 20. Cadets must be under 17 when joining.

    The aims are:
To promote and encourage a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force among young people.
Provide training which will be useful in the services and civilian life.
Encourage the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship.

59 Squadron is based in central Huddersfield. There is a high participation in Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme with the opportunity to pursue this through to the Gold Award. A number of our senior cadets have progressed to become staff members of a local RAF Volunteer Gliding Squadron and gained places on the Air Cadet Pilot scholarship.

Off-squadron activities include flying, gliding, radio and cyber activities, leadership courses, adventure training and RAFAC music services. There are opportunities for visits to RAF bases in the UK.

We meet twice a week on a Monday and Friday 7pm to 9pm for existing cadets. Please watch our website or Facebook page for updates about recruitment. We run an induction program over the first months of each intake so new members become familiar with the squadron and organisation. If you are interested in joining, please contact us at training.59@rafac.mod.gov.uk and we can arrange a visit to see and discuss what we offer.
