  1. The Whitfield Centre is a community based Centre that provides a variety of activities for people to come and enjoy. These activities ensure that people with or without sight loss can enjoy new experiences, regain their independence and lead a full and active life. The activities are a great way of meeting people, making new friends, feeling healthier and less lonely.

We have 2 minibuses which allows us to transport people to the Centre for their chosen activities. There is a cost for this service so please call for further information.

Please see our website for more details.

Normally we add categories for you when the entry is set up, but you have the option to edit them. Very occasionally some categories have restricted usage and we’ll let you know if we feel there’s a problem.

The categories are tiered with the broadest first. Click on the plus sign till you find the specific categories that best suit your group.

  1. The Society was founded in 1918 when men were returning blinded from the First World War. Without any skills they were reduced to begging on the streets.

The Society purchased a building at the top of Soothill Lane in order that these blind men could be put to useful employment by weaving the trugs for local mills.

Since then the social side of the charity has increased and in 2008-2009 we had over 8000 visits to the centre!

We continue to support the visually impaired of North Kirklees, whilst providing a rehabilitation service to the whole of Kirklees.
