  1. Founded in 1957, the IMWS strives to serve the local community.

Over the past 6 decades, the society has grown and developed within the community and is now an established community organisation. We are based in North Kirklees at the Al Hikmah Centre in Batley.

We run exercise classes, various adult courses including ESOL (English) and Computer classes, luncheon clubs for over 55's, youth groups for boys and girls and courses throughout the year. We also offer a venue hire service for conferences, meetings, weddings and sports hall bookings.

We have a weekly social group for older ladies on Mondays 11am till 3pm.

In May 2016, we launched the IMWS Dementia project. The project focuses on Dementia in the BME Community. We endeavour to meet the needs of those with Dementia and their carers by providing a forum to voice any needs and concerns. We raise awareness of Dementia in the local community and aim to tackle the stigma associated with Dementia. We do this by delivering “Dementia Friends” sessions to the local community. These sessions are completely free of charge and can be booked by anyone at all who would like to spend an hour in a fun, interactive session learning a bit about dementia.

From 3rd January 2017, we will work with Kirklees Steps for Life to run a mens exercise class at the Al Hikmah Sports hall 10am-11am. The sessions are aimed at those living with dementia or anyone who has problems with Balance and mobility. To find out more, contact Eric Delmont on 075 282 522 11 or eric.delmont@kirklees.gov.uk.

We also run a carer's group for women who care for someone with dementia or if they have a family member with dementia. This is a peer to peer group, where carers can meet like minded people, exchange advice and socialise! The aim of the group is to provide carers with a relaxing place to go to where they can concentrate on their own needs for an hour a month. Please call the centre on 01924 500555 to find out more, or e-mail info@imws.org.uk.

The centre is open 7 days a week, however office hours are from Monday to Friday 9am till 5pm.
