History

  1. The Polish Community was founded by Poles exiled from their own country because of the second world war. After the war ended many were demobbed from the armed forces and came to work in the local industries eg coal mines, textiles. In 1947 the first priest, Ks Josef Dryzalowski, came to serve the Poles in Huddersfield and masses were said in St Patrick's Church. Eventually in 1957 the church on Fitzwilliam Street was purchased and refurbished adding a presbytery, function rooms and classrooms for the Polish School. The community has grown and kept Polish traditions alive, welcoming the new influx of workers from Poland.
