History

  1. The club was formed in 1953 by the Huddersfield members of Calder Clarion. Founder member Bernard Heath also went on to be one of the first members of the Rough Stuff Fellowship, leading an off-road expedition to Iceland in 1958.

The club enjoyed sustained fame in the 1960's and 70's when Granville Sydney won the RTTC National Hill Climb Championship six times, and team prize a total of ten - 1964/5/7/8/9/70/2/3/7/8. Our best result in recent years was in 1994 when Chris Giles took 4th place during the clubs promotion of the National Championship event. The club still promotes an Open Hill Climb event every October at Jackson Bridge, with a social gathering afterwards in the WMC.

Our most famous ex-member is Yvonne McGregor, current World Pursuit Champion, who joined the club in the early 90's when she first took up cycling after being a successful fell-runner.

Mountain biking gave another one of our female members the chance to shine; Deb Murrell went on to become National Champion and excelled in all disciplines - Downhill, XC and Cyclo-Cross.
