History

  1. As one of the largest providers of apprenticeships in West Yorkshire, with an average of 550 apprentices across 15 occupational areas, we have the experience and expertise to equip people with the skills employers need.

Apprenticeships are work-based. Kirklees College will provide assistance to suitable applicants to help them find a suitable job if they are not already in employment when they apply. A number of apprentices do find work before applying to college, particularly in Construction and this is perfectly fine, pending all the necessary checks.

Sometimes learners undertake a full-time course at College first with a view to progressing onto an Apprenticeship later.

Our apprenticeship programmes are responsive to the needs of employers and the local area and the shape of provision has evolved to reflect this. Apprentices are recruited onto an appropriate level of programme based on a thorough initial assessment of their abilities (including maths and english). For some programmes, such as Plumbing and Engineering, a trade specific, aptitude test must also be passed for the applicant to be offered a place.
