History

  1. Holmfirth Parish Church Tennis club was initially formed in 1933 by the Girls Friendly Society of the Church. At this time there was 1 tarmac court and the club eventually died out. In 1972 the club was reformed, again initiated by families involved with Holmfirth Parish Church, with approximately 40 members on 1 court. During the mid 70's a second tarmac court was added and the club became active within the Huddersfield Lawn Tennis Leagues in 1981.
The original courts were on land owned by the Midlothian Garage group, which was needed by the company for there own development plans in 1993. As a result of this garage re-development the tennis club were provided with land adjacent to the original site on which we built three new hard courts with perimeter and segregation fencing and ample car parking. These courts have recently been resurfaced and new to 2009 flood lights have been installed.

During all this time the club was managing with old portable building for clubhouse facilities, with no shower, or purpose built changing rooms. This was addressed by the opening of our new clubhouse in 2001. The clubhouse now provides meeting room, separate changing and shower facilities, catering facilities and disabled access and toilet facilities. The funding for this development was obtained from grants via the Lottery Sports Foundation, club funds and loans from club membership, all of which have now been re-paid and the club owns its own freehold and had no outstanding debt.
