  1. Looking for new members!
    Learn about all the instruments of a Brazilian percussion band with support from our thirst-strong Samba Band.
    Now celebrating their 5th birthday the band has grown in reputation, with beginners now travelling from across Kirklees to learn Samba drumming in Honley. This friendly, supportive drumming group wants to hear from anybody aged 10-100 who would like to pick up a Brazilian-style drum, whether you have lots of musical experience or none whatsoever. Samba is vibrant carnival music from Brazil. Our fun workshops run on Fridays 7.30pm to 9.30pm at Neiley Pavillion, Honley and really are for anybody.
    FIRST SESSION FREE - £5 or £4 concessions thereafter.

Normally we add categories for you when the entry is set up, but you have the option to edit them. Very occasionally some categories have restricted usage and we’ll let you know if we feel there’s a problem.

Events and activities

Your events will appear on our ‘What’s on’ pages. You can include anything that people come along to see, such as festivals, shows, fairs, talks and concerts.

Choose + Add event to add details of your event, step by step.

You’ll need to fill in these details:

  • Event name
  • Description - what your event is
  • Dates and times
  • Admission details
  • Venue
  • Contact

You can then Publish your event straight away or choose Save and edit to add more details first. You can add more event information at any time, including:

  • Images
  • Facilities
  • Links and PDF documents

Events

Activities

Regular meetings or activities, usually on a weekly or monthly basis, and exhibitions of more than a week.

Your activities will appear on our ‘Things to do’ pages. You can include any regular ongoing activities that people can join in with, such as scouts and guides, youth clubs, craft groups, dancing, sports clubs and gardening clubs.

Choose + Add activity to add details of your activity, step by step.

You’ll need to fill in these details:

  • Activity name
  • Description – what your activity is
  • Dates and times
  • Admission details
  • Venue
  • Contact

You can then Publish your activity straight away or choose Save and edit to add more details first. You can add more activity information at any time, including:

  • Images
  • Facilities
  • Links and PDF documents

Venue

If you want to change your venue or add a new one please use the postcode / street name field to see a list of venues. This should cover all venues in Kirklees, but if you can’t find the venue you need please contact Community Directory, and we will advise or add it for you.

News

You can add or amend news items, and the date will change automatically, although you may need to go back into the entry to see the revised date.

To delete a news item, there is a delete option when you press Edit. This currently works only on the headline, and the text field needs to be saved with at least one digit in it, e.g. ‘x’. Alternatively, you can replace it with a new item.

    After crowd pleasing performances at The Honley Extravaganza and Honley Christmas Market last year, the friendly, relaxed drumming group have now started weekly workshops and are looking for new members.

    They are hosting a special beginners sessions. The group welcome adults and those aged 11-18 if accompanied by an adult. Sessions are aimed at complete beginners but more complex parts can be arranged for experienced musicians.

  2. After crowd pleasing performances at The Honley Extravaganza in 2013 this friendly, relaxed drumming group started weekly workshops and are always on the look out for for new members.

    The band is led by workshop leader Katie Mallard who over her 7 years experience has developed a teaching style that is energetic and compassionate, allowing participants to develop their skills in a supportive environment yet really let themselves go to enjoy the rhythms.
