History

  1. National Children's Centre was first set up in the early 1970's by Brian Jackson. Its first ever premises were next to the bus depot at Longroyd Bridge. A lot of work was done to turn the building into a children's centre. It wasn't until the mid 1980's that the centre moved to the Brian Jackson Building. The building was occupied mainly by projects run by NCC. The furniture recycling scheme, Pass it On! was originally started in Lockwood, and then moved to the basement of Brian Jackson House, it was later moved to Bradford Road, Huddersfield. Another outlet opened later at Heckmondwike, and recently at Ossett. Funding in the past was very much grant based.
