James Brunt Exhibition at the Mining Museum

About this activity

Category: art and crafts Explore artwork by our Artist in Residence on display in our new Project Space.

Our Artist in Residence, James Brunt, has developed a new series of work, inspired by and created within the Museum’s unique landscape.

The landscape brings together the industrial past and its reliance on the natural world surrounding it. James immersed himself in this environment exploring the contrast between hard-work, sweat and machine and the natural world that thrives alongside it – the birdsong, the flora and fauna.

This exhibition brings together these two juxtaposed, yet intrinsically linked elements, with a series of work born out of exploring the site, stopping, and allowing the materials to present themselves. Works are created in the moment, organically evolving, influenced by time and weather, into the images you see here today.

James is a renowned artist whose temporary installations have attracted a huge online audience and taken him around the world to create. His first book ‘Land Art, creating artworks in and with the landscape’ was published in 2023.
