Skelmanthorpe Textile Heritage Centre

About this activity

Category: Learning and interest The Skelmanthorpe Textile Heritage Centre (situated at 6 Queen Street, Skelmanthorpe) is a small museum in a "one-up-one-down" former weaver's cottage.

The downstairs family living-quarters have been maintained & furnished as a weaver's family home would have been c1900. Upstairs is an authentic hand-loom, in working condition, along with fascinating displays & artefacts linked to our textile heritage. The museum is a Skelmanthorpe jewel!

Open the second Sunday of each month 10am to 1pm but please check our website to confirm next date.

*Visits are pre-booking only*

Also usually open for Heritage Week in September.

Please see links under Further Information for more details and to check date of next opening.

A tour will typically take about an hour and your guide will describe various aspects of the cottage and the weaving community to which the family would have belonged. There will be time to browse and look more closely at exhibits.
