Orchestral Concert (Kirklees Concert Season 2025/26)

About the event

The Kirklees Concert Season is a unique partnership between Kirklees Council and Opera North in which the Orchestra of Opera North brings world class music to Kirklees with its sumptuous orchestral concerts and uplifting chamber concerts. Together with our series of relaxed and friendly organ concerts, we deliver a world-class programme of concerts to Huddersfield and Dewsbury Town Halls.

All concerts feature the Orchestra of Opera North, often with celebrated guest performers.

  • Thursday 24 September 2026 - 7:30pm, The Orchestra of Opera North: Sibelius - Symphony No. 6; Tchaikovsky - Variations on a Rococo Theme; Prokofiev - Symphony No. 5. Two wartime symphonies bookend a dazzling early work for solo cello and orchestra.
  • Sunday 1 November 2026 - 3:30pm, The Opera North Youth Orchestra: Dukas Fanfare from La Péri; Elgar Serenade for Strings; Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1; Pärt Fratres; Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 2.
  • Thursday 3 December 2026 - 7:30pm, Orchestra of Opera North: Debussy Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune; Korngold Violin Concerto; Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier suite; Ravel La valse. A sumptuous quartet of concert hall classics. Pre-concert talk 6.40pm
  • Thursday 21 January 2027 - 7:30pm, The Orchestra of Opera North: Mendelssohn Die schöne Melusine; Berlioz Les nuits d’été; Brahms Symphony No. 3. Mendelssohn, Brahms and one of classical music’s greatest radicals.
  • Sunday 21 March 2027 - 3:30pm, Opera North Youth Orchestra: Carwithen Bishop Rock – Overture; R. Strauss Horn Concerto No. 2; Beach Symphony in E minor, ‘Gaelic’.
  • Thursday 22 April 2027 - 7:30pm, The Orchestra of Opera North: Mozart Symphony No. 36, ‘Linz’; Mahler Symphony No. 9. Mahler’s Ninth is the ultimate farewell from a composer who was truly a master of a seismic symphony! Pre-concert talk 6:40pm
