Beyond the Frame: Printmaking in Dialogue with Film Exhibition at Bath House Gallery, Huddersfield (from 9th October)

About this activity

Open Friday 9 October - Saturday 14 November

Monday - Thursday & Saturday, 10am - 3pm, Fridays, 10am - 2:30pm

Beyond the Frame explores the possibilities of printmaking through its relationship with film, photography and the moving image. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see a generous selection of work by Rozi Fuller, Layla Jabbari and Emma Jackson, three artists who are rethinking what printmaking can do. Across the exhibition, printmaking emerges as a fluid and supple process, with each artist pushing the medium in new directions.

Rozi Fuller explores the relationship between print and animation, using risograph printing, collage, photography and Augmented Reality to bring static images to life. Her work invites audiences to make choices and interact, becoming active protagonists in the experience. Layla Jabbari combines Tetrapak printmaking, animation and film to explore everyday experiences, human stories and journeys.

Drawing on observation, conversation and collaboration, her work investigates migration, identity and moments of transition with tenderness and sensitivity. Emma Jackson takes found photographic imagery on a journey through different media, reworking it through print, painting, objects and installation. In the process, familiar images become fragmented and reconfigured, creating new possibilities and providing space for reflection on issues of memory, loss and recovery.

Beyond the Frame is produced by West Yorkshire Print Workshop and forms part of the University of Huddersfield’s Cultures of Film programme.
