'The Past is gone but it is not Lost'
Explore striking artwork, produced using the oral history collection held by NCMME, by Kevan Thompson on display in our Café and entrance ramp area (The Hub).
As the son of a miner, Kevan holds in adoration those who climbed down into the depths of an underground world, risking their lives daily to hew out a living for their families.
Using the Museum’s oral history collection, Kevan found himself recalling memories that he once thought were lost, ultimately finding a re-connection with the past to help to preserve the lives of miners and their underground existence. His collection of paintings on display are little more than a beginning, there are several more memories yet to uncover.
“I have sought to provide an insight by keeping memories alive, not perfect but helping relocate hidden histories and make them visible and ultimately unique to ensure they are ‘…not lost to us.”
