Entwined: Plants in Contemporary Painting exhibition

About this activity

This visual feast explores why painting plants matters now, featuring artworks by some of the UK’s leading painters.

Huddersfield Art Gallery is currently in Unit 7 of the Piazza.

The exhibition is open Wednesday to Saturday 11am to 4pm till January 28th but please check holiday opening.

Who features in the exhibition?
Several Yorkshire based artists are featured including Judith Tucker (Holmfirth), Helen Thomas (Wakefield), Iain Nicholls (Barnsley) and Joanna Whittle (Sheffield). Other UK artists include Amanda Ansell, Bryony Benge-Abbott, Hannah Brown, Graham Crowley, Sam Douglas, Michele Fletcher, Barbara Howey, Linda Ingham, Juliette Losq, Paula MacArthur, Joe Packer, Julian Perry, Narbi Price and Harvey Taylor.

What can you expect?
The paintings work with and against the rich traditions of the various visual traditions of depicting plants, from botanical illustration to decoration and design. One of the highlights is Julian Perry’s monumental Benacre Birch series. The Benacre Birch series had its premiere at the Venice Biennale, a major international cultural exhibition.
