Orchestral Concert (Kirklees Concert Season 2024/25)

About the event

The Kirklees Concert Season is a unique partnership between Kirklees Council and Opera North in which the Orchestra of Opera North brings world class music to Kirklees with its sumptuous orchestral concerts and uplifting chamber concerts. Together with our series of relaxed and friendly organ concerts, we deliver a world-class programme of concerts to Huddersfield and Dewsbury Town Halls.

The orchestral concerts are at Huddersfield Town Hall, except 19th December Christmas Gala, which is in Dewsbury.

All concerts feature the Orchestra of Opera North, often with celebrated guest performers. Most concerts have a pre-concert talk.

  • Sunday 20 October 2024 - 3:30pm - 5:00pm, Big Opera Adventure - Recommended for families with children aged 5 to 12 years old.
  • Thursday 28 November 2024 - 7:30pm, Pre-concert talk at 6.40pm The Orchestra of Opera North: Dvorak & Britten. Guest conductor Valentina Peleggi takes to the podium to present a stirring programme of romanticism and virtuosity.
  • Thursday 19 December 2024 - 7:30pm, The Orchestra of Opera North: Christmas Gala. Get in the Christmas spirit with festive favourites performed by the Orchestra, Chorus and Young Voices of Opera North.
  • Sunday 29 December 2024 - 3:30pm, The Orchestra of Opera North: Viennese Whirl - be swept into the New Year with a delightful selection of Viennese favourites, alongside special treats. Irish Soprano Anna Devin joins the Orchestra of Opera North.
  • Thursday 23 January 2025 - 7:30pm, Pre Concert talk at 6.40pm. The Orchestra of Opera North: Beethoven's 'Eroica'. Also Wagner Siegfried Idyll; and Liszt - Piano Concerto No.1 in E flat. Alexander Joel – conductor; Artur Pizarro – piano.
  • Thursday 27 February 2025 - 7:30pm, Pre Concert talk at 6.40pm. The Orchestra of Opera North: Britta Byström - A Walk to Brahms’ Violin Concerto; Brahms - Violin Concerto in D, Op.77; Tchaikovsky - Symphony No.5 . With Emilia Hoving – conductor; Clara Jumi Kang – violin.
  • Thursday 15 May 2025 - 7:30pm, Pre Concert talk at 6.40pm. The Orchestra of Opera North: Prokofiev - Symphony No.1, Op.25 ‘Classical’; Schumann - Cello Concerto ; Haydn - Symphony No.104, ‘London.’ Katie Stillman – director; Jessica Burroughs – soloist.
  • Sunday 1 June 2025 - 4:00pm, Pre Concert talk at 3.20pm. The Orchestra of Opera North: Film Music: From Mahler to Williams. Programme includes: Star Wars, Harry Potter, Psycho, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Gone with the Wind, Memoirs of a Geisha, and much more
