Dates and venues

  • Saturday 20 May 2023 - 10:00am - 2:30pm, Climb up above the Wessenden Valley on this challenging circular walk.while learning about the history of the landscape. You may spot moorland plants and birds that make the area internationally important. Distance: 7.5 miles
  • Saturday 10 June 2023 - 9:30am - 5:00pm, Marsden to Pots and Pans and Alderman’s Hill - classic walk along the plateau of Saddleworth Moor to the War Memorial and on to Alderman’s Hill. A hard walk of 2,000ft of ascent, rough moorland paths. Some steep climbs. 15 miles
  • Saturday 17 June 2023 - 3:00am - 8:00am, Early Morning Walk - Come and watch the sun rise on Marsden Moor then enjoy a well earned breakfast at a local hostelry. *Booking essential*
  • Wednesday 21 June 2023 - 7:00pm - 10:00pm, Solstice Walk - A walk up Pule Hill to watch the sun go down on the longest day of the year.
  • Sunday 25 June 2023 - 10:15am - 4:15pm, Heritage Trail North - find out more about the rich history of Marsden Moor, from Neolithic man through to the industrial revolution. A bracing walk with magnificent open moorland views. Distance: 9.5 miles.
  • Saturday 1 July 2023 - 9:30am - 7:30pm, Four Trigs - A challenging hike for experienced walkers taking in the four trig points surrounding Marsden. Expect steep climbs and rough moorland paths. 21 miles (10 Hours). Booking advisable.
  • Tuesday 4 July 2023 - 6:00pm - 8:00pm, Walk to one of the oldest farm in the area and watch the sheep being sheared for the summer. Distance: 2.5 miles | Duration: 2 hours (approx.) Please note booking is required for this walk, and numbers are limited to 40 in total.
  • Sunday 16 July 2023 - 11:00am - 3:00pm, March Haigh - Put your boots on to enjoy views from the top end of the valley and visit one of the reservoirs built to feed the canal. 5 miles. Dogs on leads welcome. Older children welcome.
  • Saturday 5 August 2023 - 9:00am - 5:00pm, Green Withens Circular - A demanding walk visiting Blackstone Edge, Green Withens reservoir and Buckstones. 15 miles. Dogs on leads welcome. This walk is not suitable for children.
  • Saturday 19 August 2023 - 10:00am - 3:00pm, Marsden to Scammonden - Adjacent to the M62 motorway, this walk teeters around the edge of Scammonden Reservoir, 8.5 miles Dogs on leads welcome. This is a challenging walk and may not be suitable for children.
