  1. Red House Museum Closure

Red House Museum’s last day of opening to the public will be Wednesday 21 December 2016. Thereafter it will close permanently to the public. Please note that Dewsbury Museum also closed to the public from 7 November 2016.

The council has begun the process for gathering expressions of interest to take over the running of the Red House and Dewsbury Museum buildings. If you represent a group or organisation who may be interested in becoming actively involved in the future of Red House or Dewsbury, please follow the link below:
    http://www.kirklees.gov.uk/beta/community-assets/community-asset-transfers.aspx

One of our other sites, the Grade I Listed Oakwell Hall is closed temporarily until Spring 2017 for investment in essential electrical works, but the Café, Shop and Country Park remain open as usual and the weddings programme is unaffected.

The other Kirklees museum in the area, Bagshaw Museum in Batley, remains open as usual.

Kirklees museums’ Huddersfield sites, Tolson Museum and Huddersfield Art Gallery, will remain open in the medium term until an alternative site for a new Huddersfield Museum and Gallery is identified.

The council took the decision to close Dewsbury and Red House as part of a wider reorganisation of the Museums Service that will see the council save £531,000. The collections have been moved into storage whilst officers consider how items can be displayed in future, for the benefit of the people of Kirklees.

We would like to thank all our visitors over the years for their wonderful support.
