Day of creativity at the Piazza, Huddersfield

About the event

Temporary Contemporary has organised a day of creativity at the Piazza this summer. With a huge range of demonstrations, exhibitions, workshops, and opportunities join us to find out about the art right on your doorstep.

Activities are free except for the Huddersfield Carnival workshop and booking is requested on some sessions. Most activity takes place 10am – 4pm with a few exceptions.

Activities include:

CollaborARTi Open Day 10am - 4pm

View exhibitions and meet a diverse range of local artists and learn techniques from interactive demos like Felt art, Chinese Paper Cutting, Abstract Acrylics, Block Printing and more. Free

Colour Aiders Colour Club at Colouricity 10am - 4pm

View exhibition, pick up a free Colour aiders activity and find out more about how to become a Colour Aider (children under 16 to be accompanied by an adult). Free

Dark Horse The Garden: Exhibition

Showings at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm

A fusion of poetry, music, script, and stunning illustration. The Garden: Exhibition tells a story of bittersweet friendship, denial, and unrequited love.

Huddersfield Carnival Mas Camp Open Day 10 am – 4pm

Visit Huddersfield Carnival’s Mas Camp and see dancers rehearsing, costumes being made and displayed and find out more about Huddersfield Carnival. Free.

Make your own Carnival headpiece in a fun workshop – booking essential

Sessions last an hour and start at 11.00am, 12.30 pm and 2pm.

Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (hcmf//) at AME’s Dai Hall

hcmf// Audio Exhibition 10am – 4pm

Huddersfield Photo Imaging Club

Vote for your favourite photo 10am - 4pm

Gallery exhibition of photographic prints and digital images – come and vote for your favourite photograph. Bring your children along and get them to vote and tell us which photographs they like best. Free

Cycle sculpture installation tribute to Brian Robinson. Free to view.

Maker World Summer Camp Drop-in 11am – 3pm

Story telling, imagining, creating, making and pretending with artists and drama practitioners from The Children's Art School and Chol Theatre. Free.


Event Hub - at Parlour 10am – 4pm

Visit Parley’s temporary space to pick up a map of events, learn more about Temporary Contemporary and the organisations and practitioners situated in the Piazza. Have a conversation about arts and culture in our town over a slice of cake, listen to our podcast series, see visual displays and view the latest piece of work created for Parley by artist Aurora Fleming. Free.

Sangam Festival 12 noon - 3.30pm

Storytelling: The Magic of Arif – The Natural World 1 – 1.45pm

We all know how important it is to care for the planet, its plants and creatures. In a free family-friendly storytelling session aimed at young children, storyteller Uncle Arif weaves a story about the natural world – with a few magic tricks along the way for your entertainment. All aboard! The pirate ship is ready to set sail. Young children will love this story about pirates, with an important moral message about the dangers of greed. West Yorkshire Print Workshop

Printmaking for families and young people 10am - 4pm

Drop-in sessions: 10.30 - 12.30 and 1.30 - 3.30

Inspired by the Wonderland exhibition, textured print and collage your own birds with artist Alan Birch. Suitable for children 8-14, families (under 8s to be accompanied by adult), older young people 14-18 and adults welcome to join in too! Free
