  1. Experience Community is a Community Interest Company formed in 2011, we organise walks and outdoor activities for disabled people and the wider community in Kirklees and beyond into the wider Yorkshire area. We are based in Slaithwaite, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and also have a base at Leeds Urban Bike Park, and we provide information, consultancy on access to the countryside, and make short films about access to the countryside for people with disabilities.

Additionally, we run regular taster and training sessions so that people can build up their skills, strength and confidence with the equipment and they can then come out on longer rambles/rides with us. Over the last few years we have run Mountain Trike rambles and Adapted Cycle rides in the Peak District, the Pennine Hills, National Trust & RSPB sites and the Yorkshire Dales in addition to organising residential trips to Kielder Forest in Northumberland, the Yorkshire Dales and the Peak District.

We have developed a route mapping project which aims to record routes that are suitable for both Mountain Trikes and Hand Cycles. These routes will be recorded using a 360 degree camera.

We also campaign for improved access to the countryside for people with disabilities, helping to inform policy at a strategic level. We work in partnership with the RSPB, Yorkshire Dales National Park, The National Trust, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, The Woodland Trust, Peak District National Park and Yorkshire Water to improve access at some of their sites across the region and nationally.

We offer a variety of activities people can get involved in:

    1) Weekly taster sessions from our base at Leeds Urban bike park.
    2) Mountain Trike Rambles - Mountain Trikes are all-terrain wheelchairs which enable people to get a bit more off the beaten track. We want to encourage people to try something new; to develop their skills, fitness and endurance by participating in our activities.
    3) Hand Cycling - we run taster sessions and longer rides for people who want a bit more of a challenge.
    4) Volunteer with us - we always need volunteer help with our taster sessions and longer rides/rambles to support our participants.
    5) Residential Trips - we run several residential trips a year, both hand cycling and Mountain Triking.
    6) 'All Together Now, in Colne Valley Land' Project - supported by Kirklees Community Plus Fund. March 2023-March 2025. This project is to expand on our previous work in partnership with the Canal & River Trust to manage Tunnel End Woodland in Marsden and start new activities along the canal from our base in Slaithwaite.

The project will also include arts, photography, walking and cycling activities based from our offices in Slaithwaite, along the canal and at Standedge Tunnel woods. These activities will be open to everyone from the community, including disabled people. Using the indoor space at our offices will enable us to continue the project year round.
