  1. Based in Stocksmoor, but with a wide catchment area, we are twinned with a small Italian town called Olgiate Molgora, a similar community situated between Milan and Lake Como.

We are a group of people with an interest in Italy and formed as a recognised twinning association. The ability to speak Italian is not essential. Many of the Italians we visit speak English, though whatever the standard of language we always manage to communicate and enjoy our time together.

The two communities were formally twinned in June 1998. While recognised by Kirklees as a Twinning Organisation we are completely self-funding. Since 1998 we have shared wonderful hospitality and spectacular visits in both our respective countries. As well as the visits arranged by hosts we stay with families and so learn at first hand how others live.

In 2019, as part of our week in Italy, we visited Milan, a Leonardo da Vinci exhibition, two superb medieval villages and the Alfa Romeo Museum. Not forgetting to mention how well we were looked after by our Italian hosts

We have enjoyed memorable weeks together in Italy and England; here sampling the best of Yorkshire and visits further afield to places such as Durham and Derbyshire

It has always been an ambition of the Italians and the British to welcome new members to the group, especially young people, and this continues to be a priority for us.

At the present time, as with so many things, our visits to each other are suspended. However we have continued to be in contact with our friends in Italy and are intending to resume our exchange activities with a visit by the Italians to England in 2023.
