  1. West Yorkshire Archive Service Kirklees collects, preserves and provides access to the unique documentary heritage of the entire Kirklees region.

Our collections date from the 12th century to the present day and include the archives of: Kirklees Council and all of its predecessor authorities; local schools; businesses (particularly textile manufacturers); non-conformist churches; families and large estates (e.g. the Ramsdens of Huddersfield); local societies; charities; and trade unions. We also hold significant collections of maps and plans relating to the district, including enclosure maps, tithe maps and architectural building control plans. You can find out more about what archives we hold by searching our online catalogue here: www.catalogue.wyjs.org.uk.

Appointments are available on Mondays and Tuesdays between 9.30am and 12.00pm and 1.00pm and 4.30pm. Pre-booked appointments are essential to view archive material so please do not travel to us before receiving confirmation of a booking.
