  1. Located in the Yorkshire town of Huddersfield, Lawrence Batley Theatre presents a wide ranging year-round programme of in-house and visiting productions, from drama and contemporary dance to circus and pantomime.

    We are the creative heart of Huddersfield, as a registered charity (No. 510693) we are here to do our community proud. We share exciting and entertaining stories, encourage creativity, nurture confidence and develop talent. We want to build a stronger sense of community here in our local area of Kirklees.

    Tickets can be booked 24 hours a day online at thelbt.org, or by phone and at the box office on Wednesdays to Saturdays 10am - 5pm. Box Office is open 90 minutes before the show.

    Access

    The theatre has awards for the quality of its access and there are lifts to all rooms and an audio system for the hard of hearing;

    Throughout our season we hold British Sign Language interpreted, Audio Described, Touch Tours and Relaxed Performances.

    Our Relaxed Performances are designed to create an enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere for anyone who would benefit from a more laid-back experience at the theatre. During the show subtle changes are made to the sound and lighting effects and the auditorium lights remain on. Audience members are also free to leave the auditorium at any point during the show if they need to take a break from the action.

Regular meetings or activities, usually on a weekly or monthly basis, and exhibitions of more than a week.

Your activities will appear on our ‘Things to do’ pages. You can include any regular ongoing activities that people can join in with, such as scouts and guides, youth clubs, craft groups, dancing, sports clubs and gardening clubs.

If you want to change your venue or add a new one please use the postcode / street name field to see a list of venues. This should cover all venues in Kirklees, but if you can’t find the venue you need please contact Community Directory, and we will advise or add it for you.

Cellar TheatreThe Cellar Theatre is a perfect space for intimate performances or private parties. This space is fully accessible and can hold up to 120 people. With performance level lighting and sound equipment plus exclusive access to our Cellar bar, this versatile space is ideal for parties, small scale conferences and special events. Attic TheatreOur Attic Theatre is a great space for rehearsals and workshops. Full of natural light it also includes blackout curtains and mirrors on all sides. This space is fully accessible and also contains a small kitchen space. To find out more information or to book one of our spaces, please email betty@thelbt.org.
Meeting Room - SmallOur building boasts two meeting rooms suitable for a multitude of uses. Small Meeting Room - An intimate meeting space for up to 10 people, this space is adjoined with our Large Meeting Room and can work well as a breakout space for larger meetings. The Gallery & Artists in Residence - Mon, Wed, Fri & Sat 10am - Our gallery is home to specially curated and touring exhibitions, with a particular focus on theatre. Our current exhibition is The Half by Simon Annand. Simon Annand is one of the UK’s leading portrait photographers and has photographed the most recognisable faces of stage, including Cate Blanchett, Judi Dench, Daniel Craig and Jude Law. In this exhibition Simon showcases 74 photographs capturing actors and actresses at the beginning of their careers through to playing on the most famous stages.
Meeting Room - LargeIdeal for meetings or training sessions and suitable for 25 people in boardroom set up or 40 in theatre set up. The room has lots of natural light and beautiful Georgian features. This space is adjoined with our Small Meeting Room which can work well as a breakout space. Please note, this space is not wheelchair accessible.
