Flame 2018

About the event

This Olympic legacy event is a wonderful celebration offering people the chance to come together and try inclusive sport and physical activities for themselves.

This year, Flame will be hosted in the glorious surroundings of Greenhead Park which is popular with locals and attracts people from miles around thanks to its history and picturesque landscape.

With the emphasis on ‘inclusive’ there will be something for all ages, abilities and interests, including:

• Cycling

• Wheelchair rugby league and basketball

• Tennis

• Adapted bikes

• Football

• Cricket

• Petanque

There will also stage with live dance and musical performances and our Fun Run for all - even local mascots are taking part!

There’s no need to book in advance. Event-goers registering at the desk on the day will receive a Flame wristband which gives them access to try everything for free.

Please dress appropriately for the weather and don't forget the sun cream if it’s sunny.

Children must be supervised at all times.

Kirklees Council is working in association with the Huddersfield Town Foundation and Yorkshire Sport Foundation to deliver this event.

The Flame event was created as a celebration of the Olympic flame passing through Kirklees on route to London for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games. The event aims to improve the health and wellbeing of residents through physical activity, as well as promoting social inclusion and the range of inclusive sports available locally.
